LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

My first editorial column...and I'm stumped! I've been thinking of things to say to you all for several months, and now that the time is here my mind has gone blank. If I close my eyes, I can picture the words; perfect, eloquent and meaningful. Keep your fingers crossed!

In the summer of 1999, I took a mass communications class at Oxnard College taught by Gary Morgan. By the end of the semester, I knew I wanted to return to college, and Gary was not about to let me quit.

Gary became my mentor and assisted in developing my plan for an AA degree in Journalism. With two small children (ages 3 and 4), this was going to be a journey like no other I had ever taken before.

In the first year, my faith was shaken many times, and I was unsure of my ability to continue classes. I still don't know how I juggled everything, yet I returned to complete my degree and will graduate in May 200 1.

Along the way, I have found people who believe in me and who offer guidance and wisdom.

These people include my family, without whom I could not accomplish my dreams.

When Gary Morgan and Steve Ames approached me in July 2000 with high hopes of recruiting me to assist in the production of the Journalist, I had no idea what I was in for - and I could not be more grateful to them both.

Thank you for giving me this opportunity, for your constant faith, friendship and abiding trust.

I promise to keep the Journalist on track and continue to honor the traditions in which it was founded. I look forward to working with you all over the next few years.
